LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team made program history on Wednesday morning by being named the No. 25-ranked team in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II rankings. Their No. 25 ranking eclipses the team’s best mark which was No. 27 in the final poll of the 2010 season when the Sailfish reached the NCAA Regional Tournament championship game.
Now 17-5 following a 3-3 road trip, the Sailfish have two more games left on Wednesday afternoon against Georgia Southwestern State University as they look to extend their best start in program history. Their good work led them to receiving 38 points in this week’s NFCA poll.
Under the leadership of eighth-year head coach Kimmy Bloemers, the ‘Fish have challenged themselves in three very competitive tournaments thus far while earning victories over other nationally-ranked programs such as Valdosta State University, Barry University and Florida Tech.
This week’s NFCA poll has West Texas A&M (23-2) once again in the No. 1 spot in the poll followed by South Region member, the University of Alabama-Huntsville (17-3) at No. 2. California Baptist University (20-7) sits at No. 3 followed by Armstrong Atlantic State (15-5) and Augustana (SD) (12-2) rounding out the top-five.
Beyond UAH and PBA the top-25 also has other South Region representation from the University of Tampa (15-3) at No. 9 and the University of North Alabama (20-6) at No. 15 in this week’s rankings respectively. Also receiving votes but outside the top-25 includes Valdosta State (17 points) and Barry (2 points).
