MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Junior Andres Vazquez launched a majestic three-run homer and Ryan Cota dominated on the mound to lead Palm Beach Atlantic to a 12-8 victory over No. 10 Barry University on Tuesday night from Feinbloom Field.

It was a back-and-forth ordeal from the start, with PBA holding a 5-4 lead over the host Bucs until the fourth inning when Vazquez’s round-tripper distanced the Sailfish from BU. Cota (Win, 2-1) tossed four innings of no-hit ball while striking out two to bridge the gap to the back end of the bullpen.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored two runs in the second, three in the third, and four in the fourth before adding on the finishing touches with a three-spot in the seventh. After a four-run bottom of the seventh for Barry, Dominic Monda pitched the final two innings and looked sharp, allowing just two weak hits and striking out a pair.

The Sailfish were outhit by the Buccaneers 10-9, but the hosts helped out by committing three errors. Both teams benefited from seven free passes on the night, including a combined total of eight hit batsmen.

Senior Ryan Drew and junior Patrick Nickler were the only Sailfish to record multi-hit games, with both smacking two singles in the game. Both Drew and junior Chris Farrell scored two runs in the game, while Vazquez led the way with three runs scored and three runs driven in.

By taking down the Buccaneers, the Sailfish gave BU their first loss since February 8th.

Palm Beach Atlantic returns to play this weekend with a three-game set with St. Thomas University. The series will be played at the Santaluces Baseball Complex and begins at 6:00 PM on Friday night.
