WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s basketball team took the short trip across town to Northwood University on Wednesday evening for a late season exhibition contest against the Seahawks at the de Hoernle Student Life Center. Palm Beach Atlantic jumped out early to a big lead but the nationally-ranked (NAIA Division II) Northwood squad would prevail in the end with an 85-77 win.

The Sailfish knocked down 42.7-percent (17-36) of their field-goals in the first-half as they led by as many as 19 points when Alan Hardy delivered a 3-pointer with 2:05 remaining to put the team up 42-23.

It would be the Seahawks however who would end the first-half on a hot streak as they closed the gap to 42-30 at the break.

Palm Beach Atlantic would not be able to find the same shooting luck they showed in the first-half in the second stanza as they could manage just a 27-percent (10-37) shooting mark in the second-half.

With the game tied at 77-77 with just 52 seconds left on the game clock the Seahawks Texas Derland delivered on a layup underneath to move in front 79-77 followed by a big block on the other end of the floor by Julian Smith to force the Sailfish into fouling mode.

NU would knock down all six of their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory and finished a remarkable 24-of-25 (96-percent) at the free-throw line on the night.

PBA was led by 19 points from junior Clayton Williams on 7-of-12 shooting including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc while Evin Graham put together a second straight solid showing off the bench with 15 points including 6-of-6 at the foul line.

Junior Garet Tucket played only 16 minutes but did manage eight points.

Northwood was led by 19 points from Josh Doughty while Derland finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

PBA will host the University of Tampa on Saturday, Mar. 1st at 4 pm for their final game of the 2013-14 season. The team will honor its senior class with a pregame ceremony.
