Jessica Wharton and Mark Heimberger Garner NCCAA Player of the Week Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Sailfish men’s and women’s tennis teams had two players honored this week for their performances on the courts as Mark Heimberger and Jessica Wharton were each named Players of the Week by the NCCAA. The honor is the first of the season for both players as they join teammates Nicolas Uryson and Liddy Robinson who were selected for the same honor earlier this season.
Heimberger, a junior from Mexico City, Mexico went undefeated in both singles and doubles last week as Palm Beach Atlantic earned a 5-4 win over St. Thomas (Fla.) University as well as a 5-2 victory against NCAA Division I, Mount St. Mary’s University on Monday.
One of the top PBA players the last several seasons, Heimberger has performed well at No. 3-singles and No. 1-doubles for the ‘Fish and is looked upon for his leadership of the team.
Jessica Wharton, a senior from Copley, Ohio earns the NCCAA Player of the Week nod following an undefeated week in both singles and doubles for PBA.
She won at No. 3-singles and No. 2-doubles versus nationally-ranked St. Thomas while stepping up the following day to claim a win at No. 2-singles and No. 1-doubles versus Alma (Mich.) College.
PBA men’s tennis will host Florida Southern College on Saturday, Mar. 1st at 1 pm while the women will not play again until battling Montana State-Billings on March 6th in Kissimmee, Fla.
