Sailfish Women's Tennis Takes Out Warner By an 8-1 Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish women’s tennis team defeated Warner (Fla.) University on Saturday afternoon by an 8-1 score as the No. 30-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic squad ended their three match losing streak.

The Sailfish (2-3) earned a sweep in doubles while winning their singles portions in matchups 1-5 on Saturday afternoon at Gaines Park.

Veena Vasquez and Yoann Peshev got things going with an 8-1 win at No. 1-doubles while Jessica Wharton and Maja Jovic earned a tight 8-6 victory at No. 2-doubles. Vilja Vahatalo and Samantha Grim teamed up for the final PBA win in doubles with an 8-2 win at No. 3-doubles.

Vasquez topped the Sailfish lineup at No. 1-singles and delivered with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Peshev produced a 7-5 win in the first at No. 2-singles then earned the win as her opponent retired.

Vahatalo came away with a hard-fought No. 3-singles victory by claiming a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win while Jovic was dominating at No. 4-singles as she earned a straight sets win.

Liddy Robinson stepped into the No. 5-singles slot and produced a 6-3, 6-4 win.

The Sailfish will have a quick turnaround for their next match as they will travel to St. Augustine on Sunday afternoon for a 12 pm showdown at Flagler College.
