WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team mounted a tremendous comeback on Wednesday night against Barry University, coming from 15 points down only to ultimately fall 63-57 on Senior Night in the Rubin Arena.
On a night in which Jaz Green, Becki Meerbeek, and Kasie Parker were honored for their time spent in a Sailfish uniform, the Buccaneers came out smoking. The visitors shot 50% (14-of-28) from the field in the opening half and led by nine at the break.
After shooting just 27% (10-of-36) in the first half, Palm Beach Atlantic shot 39% (13-of-33) in the second and even outscored the Buccaneers. Their surge came late in the period, after trailing by 15 points with 13 minutes to play, and came in large part because of their defensive effort. PBA forced Barry, who came in averaging 14.6 turnovers per game, into 23 miscues in the game, 15 of which came in the second stanza.
After pulling the score within three (60-57), the Bucs iced the game from the free throw line.
The Sailfish were led by Green, who finished her Rubin Arena swansong with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. She was joined in double-digits by Parker, who netted 12 points, and sophomore Kristie Mason, who finished with 14.
Palm Beach Atlantic heads across town for their season finale, taking on the Northwood Seahawks on Monday night, beginning at 5 PM.
