JUPITER, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball squad got an impressive victory on Sunday afternoon, using timely hitting to top Delta State University 6-4 and take the weekend series from No. 6 team in the country at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex.

A.J. Steimel capped off a four-run third inning with a clutch, two-out double on the first pitch of the at-bat. In the sixth inning, it was Chris Farrell who came up with the double, knocking in two more runs and giving the Sailfish the lead for good.

DSU scored the first run of the game after just two batters against Ryan Cota (Win, 1-0), but the starter settled in and breezed through the next three innings. After Delta State plated two runs in the fifth, Cota handed the ball off to Eric Russell, who pitched for the third straight day and picked up a hold. The final two frames were thrown by Dominic Monda (Save, 2), who allowed just one hit and notched his second save of the weekend.

PBA played errorless ball for the second time on the season, and also worked seven walks at the plate. The Statesmen outhit the Sailfish 10 to nine, but did commit an error that led to three unearned runs.

On the offensive side, Farrell continued to swing a hot bat early in the season, going 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and three runs driven in. Steimel finished the day 2-for-3 and two runs batted in, and fellow senior Anthony Ortiz made his 2014 season debut with a 2-for-4 day that saw him score two runs. Junior Andres Vazquez reached base three times thanks to a double, walk, and hit by pitch.

Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on the road Tuesday afternoon, taking on cross-town rival Northwood University beginning at 2:30 PM.
