JUPITER, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team mounted a ninth-inning rally on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell short to No. 6 Delta State by an 8-7 final from the backfields of Roger Dean Stadium.

With the Sailfish trialing 8-5 going into the final frame, a single by Jason Webb and a two-run homer off the bat of A.J. Steimel made it an 8-7 contest. Even after Ethan Perla reached base as the potential tying run, the DSU closer came in and took care of business, striking out the side to end the inning.

The Statesmen scored all eight of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with three coming as the unearned variety. The Sailfish finished with three errors in the game.

PBA got on the board in the first inning thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Joel Buchko and Andres Vazquez. Buchko would add his first home run of the season, a solo shot, later on in the fifth inning, and finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk.

Senior catcher Spencer Castro also homered for the ‘Fish, and finished the game 2-for-5, while junior third baseman Chris Farrell notched another multi-hit performance, going 2-for-5.

Pitcher Alex Greener (Loss, 0-1) fared much better this afternoon than he did in his first outing on Monday, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing just three earned runs. Rookie Sean Horner tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings to stop the damage in the middle innings.

The finale of this three-game series commences at 1 PM Sunday afternoon from Marlins Field No. 5 at the Roger Dean Stadium Complex.
