Florida Tech Edges Palm Beach Atlantic in top-30 Women's Tennis Showdown

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish women’s tennis team suffered their first defeat of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon by falling 6-3 to the No. 15-ranked Florida Tech Panthers at Gaines Park. FIT earned two wins in doubles then closed out the match by earning four more wins in singles to down the No. 30-ranked Sailfish.

Now 1-1 on the season, the ‘Fish earned their lone doubles win at No. 2 when Yoanna Peshev and Jessica Wharton teamed up for an 8-5 win.

Victories in singles for the ‘Fish came courtesy of Wharton at No. 3-singles with a 7-6 (3-0), 6-3 win over Jessica Widmark while fellow senior Liddy Robinson delivered a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6-singles.

Chloe Chanley narrowly edged out PBA’s Maja Jovic at No. 5-singles in three sets (6-4, 6-7 (0-7), 11-9) while Natasa Vukovic defeated Pehseve in similar style at No. 2-singles (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

Palm Beach Atlantic will head back to the courts on Sunday, Feb. 9th when they host Rollins College at 1 pm.
