NAPLES, Fla.- After a tough season-opening loss on Saturday to No. 9-ranked Rollins College the Sailfish men’s tennis team rebounded nicely on Sunday with an 8-1 victory at Ave Maria University. The team was dominant in singles play by dropping only two sets while a narrow loss at No. 2-doubles was the only blemish on an otherwise near perfect day for the ‘Fish.

Nicolas Uryson and Mark Heimberger teamed up to get things started for Palm Beach Atlantic (1-1) as they managed an 8-2 victory at No. 1-doubles before Romain Nowaczyk and Asti Adams were narrowly defeated 8-9 (2) at No. 2-doubles.

Nicholas Battistini and Kevin Reifler picked up the slack and came away with an 8-2 win at No. 3-doubles.

Uryson needed three sets and a comeback effort the ‘Fish at No. 1-singles but the Sailfish newcomer earned a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win to pace the team at the top.

Nowaczyk kept things going with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2-singles followed by 6-0, 6-4 win by Heimberger at No. 3-singles.

Battistini and freshman Giancarlo Taracena followed suit at Nos. 4 and 5-singles respectively with Battistini earning a 7-5, 6-2 win while Taracena posted a 6-0, 7-6 (3) victory.

Fernando Arroyo closed things out with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 win at No. 6-singles.

After a busy opening weekend the Sailfish will now turn their focus to Northwood University on Wednesday, Feb. 5th at 3 pm for their next match.
