Steimel, Buchko and Visconti Named To NCBWA Preseason All-South Region Teams

AUSTIN, Texas – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced their preseason All-Region and All-Americans on Thursday morning, and three Palm Beach Atlantic baseball players were honored to the All-South Region teams.
Senior A.J. Steimel was named to the All-South region First Team as the first baseman. In the 2013 season, Steimel finished with a .314 batting average with four home runs and a team-high 41 runs batted in. A.J. notched a ten game hitting streak in which he went 23-for-38 (.605) at the plate, proving to be one of the best hitters in the region in that two-week span.
Named to the All-South region Second Team was catcher Joel Buchko and shortstop Sean Visconti. Buchko led the Sailfish in hitting last year, finishing with a .367 average. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania native recorded a team-high 15 doubles, drove in 32 runs, knocked out four homers, and led the team in slugging percentage with a .530 mark.
Visconti, who was a freshman during the 2013 season, finished just behind Buchko in batting average at .366. The shortstop led the team in on-base percentage with a .459 mark, had the most hits on the team with 64, and scored 35 runs.
The Sailfish open up the 2014 campaign on Monday, February 3rd against Palm Beach County rival Lynn University in Jupiter’s Roger Dean Stadium.
