Tampa Flexes Muscles On Home Court, Defeat PBA 85-61
January 29, 2014
TAMPA, Fla. - It didn’t take long for the Tampa Spartans to flex their muscles against Palm Beach Atlantic’s women’s basketball team on Wednesday evening, riding an early first-half explosion to an 85-61 victory over the Sailfish from the Clemente Center in Tampa.
The Sailfish took a 7-3 lead in the early going of the contest, but the Spartans countered with a run that ended with a first half score of 51-35. PBA shot 30% (7-for-23) from the field while UT turned in an eye-popping 69% (18-for-26).
Overall, Palm Beach Atlantic forced Tampa into 14 turnovers while only committing eight of their own. The big difference, other than the 55% shooting of Tampa to the 30% shooting of PBA, was the battle of the boards, which the Spartans won handedly 43-34.
Palm Beach Atlantic was once again led in scoring by senior Kasie Parker. The Chuluota, Florida native poured in 27 points while also collecting five rebounds, two assists and two steals. The only other Sailfish to register double-digits on the scoreboard was Natalie Wood, who had a career-best 10.
The Sailfish return to action on Saturday afternoon as part of a double-header with the men on the road at Eckerd College. Tip off time for the women is slated for 2 PM.
