MIAMI, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team played a rare in-season exhibition game against Florida International University on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Panthers 78-44 from US Century Bank Arena.

The Sailfish held it close at the half, trailing 35-26, but the second stanza belonged to FIU. The host Panthers shot 60% (15-for-25) from the floor in the latter half and got 31 points from one of the leading scorers in NCAA Division I, Jerica Coley.

Palm Beach Atlantic was led in scoring by Kasie Parker, who finished with 16 points to go along with three assists and a steal. Both Jaz Green and Kimmi McIntosh finished with 10 points apiece, while Green pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

PBA head coach Carlos Palacio said after the game, “I am proud to watch these young ladies’ growth. Although we lost to a talented FIU team today, a month ago we would have never competed as well as we did today.” Palacio added, “To see us continue to try and get better every day and see how fast we are gaining on programs we are chasing is exciting.”

The Sailfish return to action on Wednesday night as part of a back-to-back, women’s and men’s extravaganza at Barry University. Tip off time for the ladies is set for 5:30 PM, while the men follow at approximately 7:30 PM.
