MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team shocked Shaw University on Friday afternoon, avenging a 20-point loss two weeks ago and topping NABC No. 24 Shaw University 75-65 in the opener of the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament.

With the Bears making easy work of the Sailfish on their home court on December 7th, it looked like a mismatch for Palm Beach Atlantic, but a strong second half and fabulous play from Kasie Parker led to the PBA victory.

Parker  scored 32 points, which topped her career-best set last Saturday against Florida Southern. The Chuluota, Florida native also had seven steals, six rebounds, and four assists.

Palm Beach Atlantic held a slim 32-31 lead at the break, but came out of halftime and cranked the defense to another level. The Sailfish forced 16 turnovers and created 22 points off of those extra chances. They held the Bears to 31% (11-for-36) shooting from the floor in the second half, and 32% (20-for-62) from the floor overall. PBA outscored SU 16-2 in fast break opportunities.

The Sailfish got a double-digit scoring effort out of freshman point guard Nikkira Brown, who scored a career-best 10 points on the afternoon. Senior Jaz Green fell one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds.

PBA returns to action tomorrow afternoon, playing host Florida Tech in the championship bout starting at 2:30 PM.
