LAKELAND, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team traveled to Florida Southern College on Saturday in search of their first victory against the Mocs in program history. The Sailfish came through behind 30 points from senior Kasie Parker to take down FSC 70-53 on Saturday in the Jenkins Field House.

It was another stellar performance from the Chuluota, Florida native, who had 30 points, eight steals, and four rebounds on the afternoon. The eight steals highlighted an overall defensive performance by the Sailfish that was nothing short of spectacular. As a team, PBA forced FSC into a season-high 27 turnovers, which then led to 28 points for the Sailfish.

Palm Beach Atlantic held Florida Southern to just 19 first half points, allowing the sharp-shooting hosts just one three-pointer on eight attempts. Overall, FSC shot just 27% (7-for-26) from the field in the first half, while PBA shot 39% (13-for-33) including 42% (5-for-12) from behind the three-point line.

The second half saw the Mocs bring the game within six points with just over eight minutes to play. After slowly chipping away at the Sailfish lead, PBA woke up and finished the game on a 19-8 run.

Senior Jaz Green posted a fine double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds to chip in with Parker’s 30. PBA also got eight point performances out of sophomore Kimmi McIntosh and freshman Alecha Gibbs.

The ‘Fish shot 39% (24-of-62) for the game while holding the Mocs to a 34% (18-of-53) shooting percentage. Though FSC won the rebounding battle 45-37 and also had more second-chance points than PBA, the turnover column proved to be too much to overcome. The Sailfish committed just 10 turnovers compared to the Moccasins 27.

Palm Beach Atlantic’s victory over Florida Southern is the first in 15 meetings. PBA had never scored more than 65 points against FSC, and the closest game before Saturday’s was a 12-point loss in 2005.

The Sailfish hit the hardwood again this coming weekend (December 20th & 21st) to take on Shaw University in the opener of the Florida Tech Tournament.
