PBA Falls to Fayetteville State In Shaw Invitational Opener

RALEIGH, N.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s women’s basketball team opened the 2013 Shaw Invitational with a loss to Fayetteville State University by a score of 72-54 on Saturday afternoon.

PBA received another fine performance from Kasie Parker, who had 16 points and seven steals on the afternoon, going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe along the way. Joining Parker in double-figures was sophomore Kristie Mason, who finished with 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting from the three-point line.

Fayetteville State jumped out to an early advantage thanks to 55% (16-of-29) shooting from the floor. Palm Beach Atlantic in the meantime shot 33% (10-of-30) from the floor and 60% (6-of-10) from behind the three-point line in the half, but faced a 46-32 deficit at the break.

The buckets were harder to come by in the second half, with PBA shooting just 21% and FSU coming in at a still-high 41%. After a combined 78 points on the board in the first half, the teams combined for just 48 in the second stanza.

Though the Sailfish forced the Broncos into 29 turnovers in the contest, PBA committed 21 of their own and were outrebounded 43-27.

Palm Beach Atlantic turns right around to face the host Shaw Bears Sunday afternoon, starting at 2 PM.
