WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With the Sailfish women’s soccer team gearing up for the upcoming NCCAA National Tournament set to begin next week the All-Region teams have been announced with six Palm Beach Atlantic players recognized along with head coach James Kryger. Sophomore Kasey Wyer was selected as the South Region Player of the Year.
The Sailfish (8-6-2) were named the automatic NCCAA South Region champions and move on to the National Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons under the direction of Coach Kryger.
Named to the NCCAA All-Region team along with Wyer were Allison Fox, Kierstyn Harrington, Haily Johnson, Andrea Jefferson and Karina White.
Wyer earned the Player of the Year nod following a fantastic sophomore campaign in which she led the Sailfish with 10 assists and 24 total points while also adding in seven goals. Two of her scores were considered game-winning goals for the Greer, S.C. native.
Last season’s South Region Player of the Year and a NCCAA All-American third-team selection, Fox earns her third career NCCAA All-Region pick as she closed out a four-year career as the PBA starting goalkeeper. This season Fox produced eight shutouts and a 1.34 goals against average while making 79 stops in goal.
Harrington and Johnson were both key cogs in the offense for Palm Beach Atlantic this season with Harrington leading the team with nine goals to go along with two assists. Johnson did her damage of six goals and two assists in only 11 matches before a season-ending injury took place.
Jefferson and White, two of the team’s most consistent and durable players, helped anchor the PBA back line as they were part of the 1.34 goals against average per match for the team. Jefferson, a West Palm Beach native, finishes out her PBA playing career with two goals and two assists as a senior defender while playing in a team-high 1,476 minutes.
White burst onto the scene this season as a dual-threat player as the athletic defender tallied five goals and two assists while playing 1,472 minutes and starting all 16 matches on the season.
The Sailfish will begin play at the NCCAA National Tournament on Monday, Dec. 2nd with a 2:00 pm matchup against No. 1-seed Lee University. The tournament is set to be played at Austin Tindall Park in Kissimmee, Fla.
