Sailfish Cruise Past Gyrenes 84-70

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic University sprinted ahead early and had four players in double-figures to down Ave Maria University 84-70 Tuesday night at the Rubin Arena.
Senior Kasie Parker led the way for PBA, scoring 25 points, grabbing six steals, and hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She was joined in double-figures by sophomore Kristie Mason (14),senior Jaz Green (11), and freshman Alecha Gibbs (10).
The Sailfish took a 39-32 lead at the break, thanks in large part to Parker’s 11 first-half points. PBA shot 42.9% (15-for-35) from the field for the half, including 8-of-10 from the charity stripe, while forcing AMU into 15 turnovers.
Joining the scoring barrage in the game was freshman Ayanna Holmes, who finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Gibbs also pulled down seven, while Mason added six boards and a team-high five assists.
Palm Beach Atlantic jumped all over the Gyrenes in the second half, scoring 45 second-half points on 56.3% (18-of-32) shooting from the field. Both sides were turnover-prone throughout the game, but the Sailfish persevered in the end. The home team forced Ave Maria into 24 turnovers, while coming away with 17 steals.
The victory evens up PBA’s record on the season to 1-1.
The Sailfish head to the road this weekend, taking on Rollins College Friday, November 15th at noon and Florida Tech Saturday November 16th at 2:00 PM as part of the Rollins College Classic.
