WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s basketball team will take on NCAA Division I Stetson University on Monday night in the team’s first exhibition contest of the 2013-14 season. Under the leadership of first-year head coach David Balza the Sailfish will feature many new faces to their roster as they look to begin a new era of PBA hoops. Game time for Monday evening is set for a tip-off of 7 pm.
Palm Beach Atlantic has not played Stetson since Nov. 26, 2010 when the Sailfish knocked off the Hatters by a 66-55 final score in a regular season contest at the Edmunds Center. Senior David Wood led the PBA efforts on that night with 14 points while 2013 graduate Dante Valentine chipped in 13 points off the bench.
This season’s matchup while not an official contest will provide Coach Balza and his staff a measuring stick as to where the team is following their work put in throughout the preseason. The team will officially open up the 2013-14 season by taking on Rollins College on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Winter Park, Fla. at 7 pm.
Stetson opened their season with an exhibition contest on Oct. 26th as they welcomed in the University of Tampa and defeated the Spartans by a 61-59 final score. The Hatters are under new head Corey Williams and will begin their non-conference slate with games at Clemson (Nov. 8) and at Notre Dame (Nov. 10) over the next week.
Versus Tampa the Hatters were led by 16 points from Da’Markco Foster while Ryan Kidd added 10 points off the SU bench.
