WACO, Texas – Some chances are truly once-in-a-lifetime. Wednesday night presented the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team with such an opportunity, taking on national power Baylor University on the Bears’ home court to open up the exhibition season.
Though the score reflected a blowout, the Lady Sailfish represented PBA valiantly, battling with the Bears the entire way, regardless of the outcome.
It was the first chance for PBA to see a new group of players on the court, with seven new faces receiving playing time in the contest. Leading the way for the ‘Fish was Kasie Parker, who scored 20 points. Fellow newcomer Jaz Green also reached double-digits in the scoring column, putting together 14 points.
It was an extra special reunion of sorts, with assistant coach Boderick Johnson coaching against his daughter, Niya. The junior Johnson had seven points and eight assists, and the two were recognized prior to the start of the contest.
The NCAA Division I preseason No. 10 Bears wound up defeating the Sailfish 111-52, but the Sailfish return to West Palm Beach with their heads held high. PBA returns to action with their final warm-up of the season on Saturday, hosting Davenport University in the Rubin Arena at 2:00 PM.
