WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- After scoring three goals in their past three matches the Sailfish women’s soccer team got exactly what they needed on Wednesday afternoon when they delivered seven scores in a rout of Ave Maria University at Magic Jack Field. Freshmen Karina White and Bridget Wollrabe led the way with two goals apiece while sophomore Kasey Wyer added a goal and two assists in the win.
The victory gets the Sailfish one step closer to the .500 mark as they improve to 5-6-2 on the season with their final home game on Friday, Nov. 1st versus Johnson & Wales University. The game will be played at Magic Jack Field and will feature a pregame ceremony honoring seniors Allison Fox and Andrea Jefferson.
“Moving into the game we talked about taking good shots and working off the ball so I was very excited to see we accomplished both and played well in the process,” said head coach James Kryger.
Tuesday’s match saw the Sailfish score early and often. Wollrabe, a freshman from San Diego, Calif. tallied her first career collegiate goal in the 3rd minute off a double-assist from Jefferson and Lesslee Hernandez. White then followed suit with a header off a corner kick from Kasey Wyer in the 27th minute to put PBA on top 2-0.
Looking for more before halftime the Sailfish would see Wyer tally her fifth goal of the season in the 33rd minute on a Morgan Stradal and Carson Mitchell feed while White drilled home her second score of the afternoon just four minutes later to close out the first-half scoring barrage.
PBA led 11-2 in first-half shots while also producing seven corner kicks.
The shots wouldn’t stop for the Blue and White in the second-half as they rattled off 18 more towards goal while the PBA reserves took over for much of the second-half.
The first shot of the second-half came from Wollrabe just 15 seconds in and the ‘Fish would tally another goal, this time on assists from Wyer and Mitchell.
Hernandez got in on the scoring party in the 50th minute when Elizabeth Gonzalez found her open in the box for an easy score. Moriah Zusi tallied the final PBA goal in the 74th minute on a Margaret Stewart pass following a solid goal kick from Allison Fox.
Fox earned the victory in goal for PBA and made two saves while freshman Kayla Wincko played the final 15 minutes at keeper.
“A great effort across the board and Karina White was selected as our Coconut Player of the Game. It could have gone to many of the ladies but her tough tackling and attacking presence was felt right away,” concluded Kryger.
