DAVIE, Fla.- Struggling with offensive consistency to start the 2008 campaign, Palm Beach Atlantic University took the fall on Sunday afternoon to Florida Tech on the campus of Nova Southeastern University. FIT chipped away from the start and finished out the game with a 5-1 victory.
While hits were more plentiful for the Fish against the Panthers, runs were another story all together as PBA stranded three base-runners on their way to pushing across one run which came in the seventh and final frame.
Table-setters Rebecca Bolinger and Chelseas Gravini each put together solid outings as Bolinger delivered with a two hits in four at-bats while Gravini finished the Sunday opener with a 3-4 performance including an RBI single that drove home PBA’s only run.
Cheryl Stephens, PBA’s senior first-baseman, registered a 2-2 game at the plate with two sharp singles while also reaching base a third time via a walk. Freshman Sarah Bronson rounded out the offensive production for the Fish with a single in three trips to the plate.
Heather Laird was once again sent to the pitching circle for PBA and responded with a complete game outing that included allowing four earned runs while also registering five Panther strikeouts.
PBA rounds out competition at the Barry/NSU tournament with a 3:45 pm matchup with Lynn University.
