TIFFIN, Ohio- With the Sailfish men’s basketball season set to kick off in just under a month the team is anxiously preparing for what they hope will be a solid first-year campaign under new head coach David Balza. One of the key components expected to contribute to the team’s success will be junior forward Marcus Hardy who was named on Thursday as the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) Preseason Player of the Year.

The ICAA for men’s basketball includes all NCAA Division II Independent institutions including Bluefield State University, Oakland City University, Spring Hill College, South Dakota School of Mines, Union University and Washington Adventist University. The preseason awards were selected by ICAA Director, Mike Bond.

Named an All-ICAA first-team selection a season ago after averaging a team-best 15.3 points per game, Hardy will once again be looked at as a go-to player for the ‘Fish in 2013-14.

A native of Detroit, Michigan the 6’7” power forward pulled down just over seven rebounds per ballgame last season while shooting 42.7-percent from the field and 73-percent from the foul line. He also averaged a team-high 35.4 minutes per game as a multi-faceted player on last season’s undersized Sailfish team.

Others joining Hardy on the All-ICAA preseason list include Treon Claiborne (Bluefield State), Konor Kulas (SD Mines), Alex Looney (Spring Hill) and Corieon Pearson (Union).

With many new faces set to suit up for PBA alongside Hardy this season, Sailfish fans are eagerly awaiting the season to tip-off with the team’s first home game set for Saturday, Nov. 16 versus cross-town rival Northwood University at 2 pm.
