VALDOSTA, Ga.- Traveling outside the Sunshine State for the first time this season the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team ventured just across the state line to Valdosta, Georgia on Sunday to do battle with in-region foe Valdosta State University. Although the game was very evenly played throughout it would be the Blazers who would find the back of the net just once to deal the Sailfish a 1-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon.
Ranked No. 6 in this week’s NSCAA regional rankings, the Blazers (7-1-3) scored late in the first-half then held off a few solid Palm Beach Atlantic (3-4-1) offensive chances in the second-half to preserve the 1-0 victory.
“It was a tough go of it today,” said Sailfish head coach James Kryger. “We played well enough to push for a goal late in the game but in the hostile conditions we just could not stretch them enough as their goalkeeper came up big twice late in the match.”
PBA senior goalkeeper Allison Fox kept the ‘Fish within striking distance in the second-half as she stopped a VSU penalty kick to keep the score at just 1-0.
No official statistics for the match are available at this time with more information to come on Monday.
The Sailfish will host Warner University on Tuesday, Oct. 16th for a makeup game at Magic Jack Field beginning with a 3:30 pm kickoff.
