St. Petersburg, Fla. – Freshman Lucas Coutinho was named NCCAA Player of the Week earlier this week, and decided to one-up himself with his performance against Eckerd College on Saturday night. The rookie contributed to every point scored in the Palm Beach Atlantic 4-0 win, netting his first collegiate hat trick, and adding an assist.
The Brazilian put PBA on the board just over the midway point in the first half, scoring on an assist from “Fish Facts” partner Modesto Arostegui in the 26th minute. That would be the only tally of the first half, with the Sailfish outshooting the Tritons 10-3 overall.
It didn’t take long into the second half for Coutinho to find the goal. In the 48th minute, senior forward Evan Singlar found Lucas for his second goal of the night.
With the match drawing near its conclusion, Coutinho found PBA’s top scorer, Kenny Hogg, who deposited his 13th goal of the season to put the Sailfish up 3-0. The final dagger came off the boot of Coutinho, who converted on a pass from senior Scotman Kevin Ireland.
Palm Beach Atlantic dominated in total shots, 19-8, and in shots on goal, 8-3. For the second straight match the Sailfish got a shutout performance, this time from Austin Spagnola. The sophomore keeper made saves on all three shot attempts on net.
PBA improves to 6-1-1 on the season with the victory, while Eckerd falls to 3-6-2. The Sailfish are back in action at Magic Jack Field in a huge regional matchup against Florida Tech on Wednesday, October 16, starting at 3 PM.
