Sailfish Men's Golf Wraps up Play at PGA National

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- After heavy rain saw round two at the Guy Harvey Invitational washed out on Monday afternoon the 16 men’s teams competing at nearby PGA National returned for a day of sunshine and plenty of golf on Tuesday. The Sailfish competed against some of the best teams in the NCAA Division II ranks and came away with another admirable showing.
Taking part in just their second tournament of the fall as a first-year program the Sailfish finished with a cumulative team score of 951 (319-314-318) for the three rounds to finish in 15th place.
Barry University, the No. 1-ranked team in Division II won the team title with a cumulative 854 (290-276-288) team score while a one-hole playoff was needed to determine an individual medalist.
The playoff featured three players in Adam Svensson (Barry), Mario Beltran (Barry) and Spencer Schindler (Flagler College) at 211 (-5) with Svensson and Beltran each paring the hole and Schindler going double-bogey. Sevensson and Beltran chose to take the tie and are co-medalists of the event.
Barry set a new tournament record with their second round score of 276, besting the 279 put together by Nova Southeastern in 2012.
The top tournament finishers for PBA were Bryan Gagnon at 229 (75-78-76) good for 56th place while Jake West tied for 63rd with a 231 (82-76-73) scorecard.
Following the Sailfish top two finishers were Ben Murray at 240 (79-79-82), Chris Clancy at 256 (83-86-87) and Alec Tropea at 260 (92-81-87).
Following Barry in the team standings was Lynn University (861), Nova Southeastern (862), California Baptist University (873) and Rollins College (877) to round out the top-five.
The ‘Fish will get back to work for another fall tournament on Oct. 14-15 at the Johnson & Wales Adamonis Invitational in Miami, Fla.
