PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s golf team began play on Monday at nearby PGA National as they competed in the Guy Harvey Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University. The 16-team field features many of the nation’s top NCAA Division II teams competing at the Fazio Course with Rollins College settling in with a four shot lead after the first day.

The Sailfish are a first-year program under the leadership of head coach Craig Watson and will be competing in a few select tournaments this fall before tackling their official schedule in the Spring.

Coach Watson’s bunch finished with a team score of 319 after the first day for a cumulative team score of +31 as they continue to get their feet wet as a collegiate program. They stand at No. 15 in the team standings.

The team’s top individual finisher after the first day is Bryan Gagnon who posted a 75 (+3) first-round score that places him just six shots off the pace set by four different players at 70 (-2) for the day and tied for 44th in the field.

Following Gagnon on the team leaderboard is Ben Murray with a 79 (+7) followed by Jake West (82) and Chris Clancy (83). Alex Tropea rounded out the team’s competitors with a 92 after the first day.

The team will resume play tomorrow for the final round of play at the Guy Harvey Invitational.
