DUE WEST, S.C. – It was another wild adventure for Palm Beach Atlantic’s men’s soccer team, this time against Erskine College on Saturday afternoon. The Sailfish rallied in overtime thanks to a Kenny Hogg hat trick and defeated the host Flying Fleet 3-2 at Huggins Field.
It was the Fleet who got on the board in the eighth minute courtesy of a miscue by the Sailfish keeper. Fortunately, Hogg came back in the 22nd minute and converted on a penalty kick to knot up the score.
The day was just getting started for the senior from Irvine, Scotland, as Kenny drove home his fifth goal of the year from the front of the box on an assist from Lucas Coutinho to give PBA a 2-1 lead. But just when it seemed Palm Beach Atlantic had the match wrapped up, Erskine came through with a goal in the 90th minute to tie it up at 2-2.
When facing adversity a team wants to be able to count on its seniors, and in the overtime on the road they came through. Evan Singlar set up Hogg on a cross in front of the goal and Kenny converted his sixth goal of the year to give the Sailfish a hard-fought road victory.
PBA dominated in shots, tallying a 26-13 advantage overall, and putting 15 on goal compared to just seven for Erskine. The two squads each took four corners apiece, and the Fleet totaled 12 saves to the ‘Fish five.
The Sailfish XI will finish up their South Carolina road trip with a visit to North Greenville University on Monday afternoon, kicking off at 1 P.M. PBA will be back in action at Magic Jack Field on Wednesday, October 9th.
