BOCA RATON, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic drew an impressive and important result on Tuesday afternoon, battling their way to a 2-2 draw on the road with NCAA No. 1 Lynn from the Lynn Soccer Field.
The Sailfish mounted a furious second half comeback after falling behind 2-0 before the break. After getting just two shot attempts in the first half, PBA cut the lead in half with an early goal from Cameron Roberts.
Palm Beach Atlantic continued the pressure throughout the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net. With the finals seconds quickly ticking away, the Sailfish benefited from a Lynn own goal with just nine seconds remaining that sent the two squads to overtime.
After two scoreless overtimes, PBA was able to board the bus thrilled with their result for the trip back to West Palm Beach. Overall, Lynn had the advantage in overall shots (23 to 10), shots on goal (11 to 6), and corner kicks (10 to 4).
Sophomore keeper Austin Spagnola got the start between the pipes and responded with nine saves on the afternoon. Roberts’ first goal of the season came off of an assist from AJ Black.
Coach Gomez added after the match, “It was really a tale of two halves. They controlled the first half, and I felt like we did a good job of coming out and controlling the second half.” He also added, “This result shows how much better our depth is in years past. We didn’t lose any ground when we brought guys off of our bench, and that’s the key to a successful year.”
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to the pitch in a week’s time, taking on Florida Southern at Magic Jack Field Tuesday, September 17th, starting at 3 P.M.
