ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team opened play to start the season for the third straight year on Friday by participating in the Flagler College Kick-Off Classic with yet another nail-biting outcome. As has been tradition for the ‘Fish in traveling to St. Augustine, overtime would be in the team’s future. This time around it would end in a tie as PBA and Limestone (S.C.) College would go 110 minutes of soccer action without a goal being scored by either team.

Thus far the Sailfish (0-0-1) have seen themselves needing extra time to decide a winner in four of the five contests played at the Flagler Kick-Off Classic over the past three seasons including a second straight decision against Limestone.

The two teams battled back in 2011 with the Saints (0-0-1) coming out on top 1-0 with a goal late in the first OT period.

Tonight’s matchup featured a big advantage in shots for the ‘Fish as they led 17-6 including an 8-2 advantage with shots on goal however they were unable to find the back of the net.

A physical game throughout, the officials whistled a total of 35 fouls between the two squads with Limestone holding the slight edge at 18-17.

Senior goalkeeper Allison Fox went the distance in goal for PBA as she netted her first shutout after posting nine shutouts a season ago. Fox made two saves on the evening.

Freshman Karina White, sophomore Haily Johnson and junior Moriah Zusi each tied for the team lead in shots with three each while sophomore Kasey Wyer connected for a pair of shots including both on goal.

Whitney Salonich was featured in goal for Limestone and came away with eight stops.

PBA will have Saturday off before returning to the pitch on Sunday to take on Barton (N.C.) College at 1:30 pm. The Sailfish defeated Barton by a score of 1-0 last season. Live video is expected to once again be provided by Flagler as well as live statistics of the match.
