WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s 3-2 overtime victory over Colorado Christian on Thursday evening provided a little extra gratification for Head Coach Jose Gomez. As Lucas Coutinho’s game winner found the back of the net, the Sailfish manager recorded his 100th career coaching victory.

Gomez was hired shortly before the 2005 season, and has since gone on to lead PBA to an average of 11 wins per season. His Sailfish Eleven have set and re-set the Palm Beach Atlantic record for wins in a season, with a 15-6-0 mark in 2010 that included a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship, and a record-breaking 16-4-2 record in 2012.

In his eight plus seasons at the helm, Gomez has led PBA to seven NCCAA South Region Championships, and was named the 2010 NCCAA Coach of the year. During his tenure, he has helped the development of many young men, including 26 NCCAA All-Americans, three NSCAA All-Region players, and one NSCAA, Daktronics, and Co-SIDA Academic All-American.

Coach Gomez remarked, “I have so many people to thank that helped me reach this accomplishment. I’ve been blessed with great players over the years and have to thank them first. Obviously the alumni, soccer supporters, parents, and my assistant coaches have played a huge part of our success over the years as well. I also have to thank Bob White and Carolyn Stone, with Bob hiring me nine years ago and Carolyn being so supportive of me in her time as well. And lastly I have to thank my family and my wife Carrie for all of their support over my career.”

Gomez got his first win in 2005 against Southeastern University, and within four seasons became the all-time Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer leader in wins as a coach. His nine seasons as head coach are also the most by any men’s soccer coach in program history.

The Sailfish and Coach Gomez go up against NCAA No. 1 Lynn University Tuesday, September 6th in Boca Raton.
