DAVIE, Fla.- Participating in the highly-competitive Barry/NSU tournament to start the season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team faced quite possibly their biggest test against 15th ranked Valdosta State University in their first game on Saturday afternoon.
Battling throughout, the Fish were unable to overtake the Lady Blazers as VSU came away with a 6-1 victory while improving their overall record to 2-1.
The Blazers got the scoring started with a single run in the second inning followed by two more runs in the third frame. They would also tack on three more in the top half of the seventh to cushion their overall lead.
PBA pushed across their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning before VSU was able to extinguish the late rally by PBA.
Freshman shortstop Caitlin Bouschet continued to play well for the blue and white with a hit and a walk while infielders Cheryl Stephens and Danielle Perrotti each accounted for the Sailfish other hits.
Andrea Fugate made her second start of the tournament and turned in an outing of allowing six runs (four earned) while adding in three strikeouts as she went the distance for PBA.
Ashley Hill earned the victory for VSU as she tallied five innings before giving way to Steph Owen who closed out the contest while allowing two hits and allowing one run.
PBA continues with a game later today against Lynn University.
