LAKELAND, Fla. – For the second day in a row, the Palm Beach Atlantic offense was kept at bay, as Emmanuel College knocked off the top-seeded Sailfish, 4-1, eliminating PBA from the NCCAA South Region tournament.
The Sailfish, much like in the opening round game, fell behind early, with two runs coming in for the Lions in the second inning. PBA only managed two true scoring opportunities throughout the seven-inning affair, unable to string enough hits together.
PBA scored their lone run in the sixth inning. Matt Perkowski walked and came around to score on one of two Emmanuel errors in the inning. The key moment came with Brian Walker at the plate and two outs. With the bases loaded, Walker lined a shot up the middle, but was robbed of a hit by the shortstop, stranding the tying run at second base.
The Lions came back to add a key insurance run in the following frame against Andres Lopez, and the Sailfish were unable to rally in the final frame. Lopez tossed his final game for PBA, striking out eight along the six innings of work.
With the season over, Palm Beach Atlantic finishes the season with a record of 28-23. The 28 wins is a new high for victories in a season for PBA since entering into the NCAA.
