DALLAS, Tex.- For the first time this season the Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team has had a player recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) as a Regional Pitcher of the Week. That honor belongs to senior right-hander Nic Kovacs who was selected after tossing an impressive nine-inning shutout over Barry University last Friday.
The Clermont, Florida native is in his second season with the Fish after transferring from Lake Sumter Community College.
Against the Bucs, Kovacs was about as dominant as one could hope for as he shut down the Barry offense to the tune of five hits allowed over nine innings as PBA earned a 4-0 win.
He posted six strikeouts and walked none while on his way to his sixth complete game of the season.
In total, Kovacs is now 6-4 as Palm Beach Atlantic’s regular Friday night starter while posting a 2.13 earned-run average in 88.2 innings of work. He has struck out 49 batters and walked only nine batters on the season.
