PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- A potential special evening for the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team was cut short on Monday afternoon when the Sailfish were forced to cancel their double-header with Florida Tech on the account of a heavy thunderstorm that wiped out the otherwise perfect playing conditions. The Fish were still able to honor their four seniors and their families before the rains washed out the playing field.

The program’s four seniors in Kara Anderson, Brittany Jones, Mary Pippin and Miranda Welch were each presented with a gift from head coach Kimmy Bloemers and honored in a brief ceremony during the pre-game on Monday.

As the team was putting on their finishing touches to the pre-game fesitivities the skies opened up and unloaded heavy rain on the Lake Catherine Field.

The Sailfish were set to host Florida Tech on Monday but will now turn their attention to a pair of road dates this week with Nova Southeastern on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale and a Saturday double-dip with Eckerd College in St. Petersburg.

Due to the number of days remaining in the season and upcoming final exams it is not expected that today’s games will be made up or rescheduled versus FIT.
