MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Still looking for their first win of the season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team fell just short against Palm Beach County rival Lynn University as the Knights were able to push across two runs in the bottom of the seventh and steal a win away from the Fish.
Leading 3-2 entering the seventh and final inning, the Fighting Knights were able to rally for two runs against PBA freshman hurler Heather Laird (0-2) and took the game by a final score of 4-3.
Despite the tough loss, Laird continues to impress from the pitching circle in this her freshman campaign for PBA. Laird limited the Knights to only six hits while allowing zero earned runs and striking out one.
With the Fish trailing 2-0 entering their half of the fourth inning, PBA tacked on their first run of the day before taking a brief 3-2 lead with two more runs in the seventh inning.
Shortstop Caitlin Bouschet collected a triple and a walk against LU while also picking up an RBI and scoring a run. Sam Russo registered the big hit of the afternoon with a two-run double that gave PBA the lead.
PBA returns to tournament action on Sunday when they square off against Florida Tech at 1:30 pm and then another contest with Lynn University at 3:45 pm.
