Asti Adams and Veena Vasquez Recognized as NCCAA Players of the Week

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Sailfish tennis programs each had a member of their teams represented this week as the NCCAA National Player of the Week in freshman Asti Adams on the men’s side while sophomore Veena Vasquez was selected from the women’s nominees. The honors are the first of the season for both as each went undefeated in singles and doubles this past week.
A native of Charlotte, Florida, Adams helped lead the Sailfish men’s team to a 7-2 win over No. 24-ranked (NAIA) St. Thomas University.
Adams partnered with teammate Giuseppe Guarnieri against the Bobcats at No. 1-doubles as they came away with an 8-6 win. He was also solid in singles at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Vasquez had a special week with her being named the No. 17-ranked player in NCAA Division II after her solid start to the season.
She finished 4-0 on the week with wins in doubles and singles in both her team’s matches against the likes of Seton Hill University and St. Thomas University.
She earned a straight sets win in singles versus her opponent from SHU while leading the Fish at No. 1-doubles as well as PBA cruised to a 9-0 victory over Seton Hill.
Versus St. Thomas, the Fish earned another 9-0 win, with Vasquez claiming a 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 5-ranked (NAIA) Tetiana Kovalska.
