PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – In the rematch of a hotly contested ballgame from February, Palm Beach Atlantic came out and smashed Florida Memorial on Tuesday night, scoring 14 runs in the second inning, and ultimately going on to win 21-0 at Palm Beach Gardens High School.
The Sailfish narrowly defeated the Lions, 9-8, back on February 5th, but tonight was a different story from the outset. PBA would score three runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. The first four batters walked, and two would come in to score on wild pitches. The third came home on a sacrifice fly by Matt Perkowski.
In a day filled with offensive highlights, three peculiar feats stand out. Perkowski, who finished the game without recording an official at-bat, drove home four runs on sacrifice flies. On top of that, two different PBA hitters finished the game with five walks. Ryan Gerber was 0-for-1 with three runs scored and five walks, while Andres Vazquez also went 0-for-1, but scored five times.
A.J. Steimel finished the game 4-for-4 with four runs driven in and three runs scored. A.J. has gone 8-for-8 in the last two games, and has 22 hits in his last 33 at-bats.
The ‘Fish scored 21 runs on 11 hits, including a towering two-run home run from Karl Kapinos, his second of the season.
The pitching combination of T.J. Harbuck, Kevin Bartlett (Win, 1-0), Raul Montanez, and Matt Bell combined for the seven inning shut-out. The quartet combined for six strikeouts, including three for Harbuck and two for Montanez.
The Sailfish hit the road Wednesday afternoon to take on Florida Tech, starting at 6:00 P.M. You can catch all the action at pbasailfish.com.
