WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team had nine turnovers after one half of play on Tuesday evening against Flagler College. They had 14 after intermission.

Despite their best efforts, the young Sailfish were unable to take care of the basketball with consistency down the stretch and the Saints capitalized on their way to a 67-59 victory to push their record to 4-13 on the season.

Playing some of their best basketball of the season in stretches, PBA could never quite reach the Saints on the scoreboard and faltered down the stretch after getting as close as six points with the score set at 61-55. The Saints defense would buckle down however and cruise their way to the victory.

PBA was once again led by the strong interior play of it’s two sophomore post players: Brooke Burgess and Haley Adcock. A force in the paint for the entire season, Burgess finished out the game with 19 points and an astonishing 20 rebounds. A native of Palm City, Florida, Burgess had a double-double at intermission with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Adcock, a 6’2” center from Monroe, Georgia and in her second season in a PBA uniform, continues to improve seemingly every time out on the floor as she posted a career-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. Sophomore Ashley Adkins (Nacogdoches, Texas) also reached double-digits as she totaled 13 points while nailing 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc. Melissa Perez, yet another sophomore standout, collected only four points but did dish out six assists and registered four steals.

For the Saints, Brittney Garmon took home game-high honors with 20 points while also bringing down 13 rebounds and adding in six steals. Christy Forsyth was the only other Flagler player to reach double-figures as she netted 10 points while hitting both of her three-point attempts.

Up next for PBA will be St. Thomas University next Tuesday for a 7 pm showdown on January 22nd.
