DAVIE, Fla. – The offense exploded for five runs in the final two innings, and Nic Kovacs pitched a complete game to lift Palm Beach Atlantic over south Florida rival Nova Southeastern, 8-1 on Tuesday night.

Kovacs tossed his second complete game of the season, striking out six batters while scattering 10 hits. The only run scored by Nova was unearned. Though the Sailfish committed two errors, the defense once again shined, with multiple highlight-reel plays from all the defenders.

The Sailfish were holding on tightly to a slim 3-1 lead until the eighth inning, when Ryan Gerber smacked a bases-loaded single to drive home a pair. After a sacrifice bunt, Joel Buchko drove home two more runs to expand the lead. Junior Bobby Kissner then led off the ninth inning with a pinch-hit home run that swelled the PBA lead to seven, where it would finish.

The offense was extremely balanced, with six players scoring runs in the contest. The Fish were led by Buchko, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Gerber who went 2-for-5 with three runs driven in and two runs scored. Anthony Ortiz added two hits in four at-bats and scored two runs.

It was almost a repeat performance from last week, when Palm Beach Atlantic traveled south to take on Nova and defeated the Sharks 9-4.

Palm Beach Atlantic, now 10-4 on the season, returns to action on Thursday evening, taking on Mercyhurst College, starting at 6:00 P.M. at Santaluces.
