DAVIE, Fla. – A bases-clearing double by Brian Walker led to a seven run third inning for Palm Beach Atlantic, and the Sailfish rode the offensive outburst to a 9-4 victory over Nova Southeastern on Tuesday night.
Trailing 2-0 after two innings, the Nova starting pitcher loaded the bases and walked in the first PBA run. With a new arm on the mound, Walker fell behind in the count, no balls and two strikes, before lining a double into the left-center field gap. Senior Matt Perkowski and junior Ryan Gerber added RBI doubles in the inning to cap the scoring for the Fish.
The Sailfish pitching staff put together another fine performance behind the left arm of Jonathan Kies. The southpaw worked into the sixth inning and scattered nine hits while giving up two earned runs before being replaced by Matt Niedzwiecki. The righty reliever worked a flawless two and two-thirds innings, and Jimmy Kelly finished the game up with a perfect slate in the ninth.
The offensive outburst was led by Gerber, Perkowski, and Walker. Gerber went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI, while reaching base two other times via walk. Perkowski went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Walker finished 2-for-5, driving in four runs.
Its de-ja-vu all over again for Palm Beach Atlantic in the next week, with their next contest being on the road with Nova Southeastern once again, starting at 6 P.M.
