DAVIE, Fla.- Looking to build on their remarkable turnaround season from a year ago which saw the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team improve by over 10 games, the Lady Fish battled hard in their season opener on Friday afternoon but were unable to defeat Nova Southeastner as they fell 2-0 to the hands of the Lady Sharks.

Participating in the weekend-long tournament, the Sailfish began their slate of scheduled games against NSU with junior Jordan Laria (Akron, Ohio) on the rubber for second-year head coach Kimmy Bloemers. Laria proved impressive by allowing only two runs as NSU shutout the Sailfish offense on their way to a season-opening 2-0 victory.

Laria put together a solid overall performance by tossing seven innings while allowing only two runs (one earned) while scattering nine hits and striking out one.

A pair of NSU hurlers combined on the shutout as Dani Caron kept the Sailfish offense at bay for the first 5 1/3 innings and limited PBA to four hits while striking out four batters before giving way to Ashley Baker who completed the shutout for the final 1 2/3 innings in relief, retiring all four batters she faced.

PBA tallied four hits on the afternoon with catcher Candace Horton (Orlando, Fla.) and freshman shortstop Caitlin Bouschet (Lake Worth, Fla.) each tallying two hits apiece in the 2-0 defeat.
