ORLANDO, Fla.- A back-and-forth contest finally ended on Sunday afternoon with the No. 27-ranked (ITA) Flagler College Saints men’s tennis team on top of Palm Beach Atlantic as the two Florida rivals squared off at the Red Bug Courts in Orlando, Fla. After dropping two of three in doubles, the Fish were forced to attempt a comeback only to come up just short in knocking off the Saints.

The loss drops Palm Beach Atlantic to 0-5 on the season while Flagler earns their first win to improve to 1-1.

If not for some good rallies by the Sailfish in singles, the Saints may have prevailed by a larger margin of victory.

Leading 2-1 after doubles, FC earned wins at No. 1-singles and No. 3-singles while posting first set victories at No. 4 and No. 5-singles as well.

With things looking bleak and the possibility of a lopsided loss, the Fish responded with comeback wins by Michael Leonard at No. 4-singles (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) and No. 5-singles by Nicholas Battistini (1-6, 7-5, 6-3) to close the gap.

In the end the Saints would have just enough to earn the win as they claimed a No. 6-singles win by a tally of 6-4, 6-3.

Giuseppe Guarnieri and Michael Tsoi combined for PBA’s lone doubles win with an 8-3 win while Guarnieri  also earned a singles win at No. 2-singles by the scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

PBA will look to get their first victory their next time out which will take place on Feb. 16 when they travel to Winter Park, Fla. for a matchup with Rollins College at 1 pm.
