JUPITER, Fla. – Seniors Nic Kovacs and Matt Perkowski stepped up on perhaps their biggest stage of 2013, with Kovacs twirling another gem and Perkowski driving in the two key runs, as Palm Beach Atlantic (4-1) avenged their only loss of the season with a 5-2 win over Lynn (2-1) on Friday night in front of 585 people at Roger Dean Stadium.
Kovacs (Win, 2-0) did his best Houdini act in the first two innings, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first and benefiting from solid defense in the second. After that, Nic dominated the Fighting Knights until the final inning, allowing just three hits while striking out six. Jimmy Kelly (Save, 2) recorded the final two outs of the game to pick up his second save of the season.
Perkowski led a balanced offensive attack for the Sailfish, doubling home the first run of the game in the third inning and doubling home another run in the fourth. He finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The key hit of the game came from Andres Vazquez in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, the redshirt-sophomore drove a single back up the middle that scored two. Perkowski then drove home the fifth and final run for the Sailfish.
Palm Beach Atlantic travels to Boca Raton tomorrow to finish the season series again Lynn, starting at 1 PM. Live stats and an audio broadcast will be available at pbasailfish.com.
