LAKELAND, Fla.- Continuing their recent swing of steady play through the past two weeks, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team struggled on the road on Friday night as they fell to Florida Southern College by a final score of 93-56.
The Mocs jumped to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back as the Fish never quite got their game moving in a positive direction. At the half, FSC (5-3) pushed their lead to 48-25 and eventually took the contest for their second straight victory.
Palm Beach Atlantic (1-12) was led once again by sophomore Brooke Burgess (Palm City, Fla./Jensen Beach HS) as she registered her 9th straight “double-double” as she posted game-ending totals of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Burgess connected on 9-of-24 shots from the field on the night while collecting six of 13 rebounds on the offensive end.
First-year head coach Robin Potera-Haskins also received a solid performance by junior guard Melissa Perez (Miami, Fla.) who tallied a season-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting including a solid 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Also reaching double-figures for PBA was sophomore Kim Kelly (Missouri City, Texas) who tallied 10 points.
PBA will be taking the remainder of the week off as they receive a break from their recently rigorous schedule. The Fish will be traveling to Florida Tech on Monday, December 17th at 7:00 pm.
