WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sailfish offense exploded Wednesday night, thanks in large part to 26 points from senior Ashley Dolberry, avenging an eight point loss early in the season to the Lynn Fighting Knights, 77-61.
Dolberry led the offense barrage with her 26 points, falling just one point shy of tying her personal record set earlier this year. She was joined in double-figures by Mallory Motycka (15), Lynsey Poole (13) and Taylor Peterson (11).
The offense clicked on all cylinders throughout the course of the game. The Sailfish shot 44% (29-of-66) from the floor and 32% (7-of-22) from behind the three point line. Motycka was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown, while Peterson knocked down three of her own.
On the defensive side of the court, Palm Beach Atlantic held Lynn to 34.5% (20-of-58) from the floor and just 23.5% (4-of-17) from behind the three point arc. The Fish also forced the Knights into 18 turnovers while committing just nine themselves. The biggest accomplishment for PBA was holding the Knights’ top-scorer, Kira Harvey, to just three points. Harvey leads the Sunshine State Conference with a 19.7 points per game average.
Just like the first meeting between the two South Florida rivals, PBA held a slim four-point halftime lead. In the first meeting, the fish managed just 16 second half points. In the rematch, Palm Beach Atlantic outscored Lynn 43-31. The Sailfish also out-rebounded the Knights for the second time this year, 40-37.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Saturday for the ladies’ final home game of the season. They are set to take on the Eckerd Tritons as part of a double-header, starting at 2 P.M.
