Big Second Half Trips Up PBA Against FIT, Fall 72-53

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic trailed Florida Tech by just five at the half, but a 11-2 run by the Panthers to start the second period led to a 72-53 Sailfish loss on Saturday afternoon from the Rubin Arena.

Freshman Taylor Peterson led PBA with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while senior Lynsey Poole came off the bench to score 14, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Panthers offensive attack.

FIT attempted 15 more shots than PBA, going 25-for-63 from the floor for 40%, while the Sailfish went 19-for-48 for 40%. The Panthers knocked down 35% (7-of-20) of their three point attempts, while Palm Beach Atlantic hit just 15% (2-of-13).

Florida Tech dominated the rebounding category, pulling down 46 boards compared to PBA’s 25. The Panthers finished with 21 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds. FIT scored 19 second chance points compared to PBA’s seven.

PBA’s leading scorer, Senior Ashley Dolberry, scored nine points for the Fish, brought down six rebounds, and dished out five assists. Christina Alessi made her first appearance in a Sailfish basketball uniform, and even though she finished with just three points, she made her presence known on the defensive end. The 6-foot-2 junior finished with six blocks in 20 minutes of play, giving her the most rejections on the team.

Palm Beach Atlantic is now 3-10 on the season and square off with Northwood University on Tuesday at 7 P.M.
