MELBOURNE, Fla. – Kristie Mason was hot from downtown, nailing 4-of-8 three pointers en route to 14 total points, but Palm Beach Atlantic couldn’t stop Florida Tech on the defensive side, falling to the Panthers 81-54 in the opening game of the CarMaxx Holiday Classic on Saturday afternoon.
FIT jumped ahead to a 15-0 lead to start the game, and PBA was never able to fully recover. In the first half, the Sailfish cut a 17-point deficit down to 10 before the Panthers finish the period on a 30-14 run.
With a 16 point halftime deficit, the Sailfish were able to battle back and trim the lead down to nine points with 13 minutes remaining. That’s when Florida Tech kicked the defense up another level, allowing just 10 points to end the second half.
Mason led PBA with her 14 points, while senior Ashley Dolberry scored 12 points while hauling down eight rebounds. Chrissy Berenato tied a career-high in points (five) and grabbed a career-best six rebounds.
The Sailfish shot 36.8% (21-of-57) in the game, including 38.5% (5-for-13) from beyond the three point line. The Panthers had a great shooting performance on the afternoon, shooting 43.8% (28-of-64) from the floor and 42.9% (12-of-28) from downtown.
Palm Beach Atlantic is back in action tomorrow afternoon against Nova Southeastern in the matinee of the CarMaxx Holiday Classic, starting at 2 P.M.
