ST. AUGUSUSTINE, Fla.- After dropping their tournament opener versus the likes of host Eckerd College, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team was unable to earn a split on Saturday as they were defeated by Minnesota State-Mankato by a final tally of 97-75.

Once again leaning on a short bench, Palm Beach Atlantic put forth a season-high 75 point output against MSUM, however a big first half left the Sailfish down big at the half and while their second half efforts outscored their opponent, it was not enough as the Fish dropped their third straight contest.

Putting together back-to-back solid games over the weekend, sophomore Brooke Burgess certainly did her part in trying to lead PBA to a victory as she posted game-high totals of 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds. A Palm City, Florida native, Burgess connected on all ten of her free-throw attempts while hitting 9-16 shots from the field.

Giving PBA fans some hope for the future beyond Burgess was the solid play of both sophomore Ashley Adkins and junior Sitara Richard who both posted solid performances offensively.

After scoring only two points in the tournament opener versus Eckerd, Adkins rebounded nicely on Saturday as she totaled 19 points while hitting four of seven shots from beyond the arc. Richard also continued her long-ball success by hitting five of eight three-point attempts for a total of 17 points in 37 minutes of action.

On the night, PBA as a team hit 10-19 shots from beyond the arc while totaling a team shooting percentage of 44.6% from the field overall (25-56).

With the victory, Minnesota State-Mankato continued their unbeaten streak to start the 2007-2008 season as they improved to 4-0.

Now 1-5 to start the season, PBA looks forward to Monday, November 25th as they welcome in Barry University for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Buccaneers.
