GREENVILLE, S.C. – The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has announced its postseason awards, and Palm Beach Atlantic is well represented. The Sailfish had two representatives on the 2012 All-Tournament team and three on the 2012 All-American third-team.
Midfielder Kevin Ireland and forward Kenny Hogg were honored for their play in the NCCAA National Tournament. Ireland played a fantastic midfield all year, and was rewarded with his performance in the tournament. He registered one assist in the victory over Bethel College. Hogg, the NCAA leader in scoring, scored one goal and tallied two assists over the duration of the tournament to earn the honor.
The three players named to the NCCAA All-American third-team are Lewis Thompson, Ireland and Evan Singlar. Thompson was a key component of the Sailfish defense that allowed just 22 goals this season and contributed to nine shutouts. He was also named to the NCCAA South Region first-team.
Ireland registered one goal and six assists on the season playing a total of 1,492 minutes. Playing primarily as the defensive midfielder, Kevin was also a key member of the stout PBA defense who earned NCCAA South Region first-team honors.
Singlar erupted at the end of the season to become the second scoring threat for the Sailfish. He finished the season with eight goals and a team-leading 15 assists. His assist total put him in the top five in all of NCAA DII. Evan was also named to the Daktronics All-Region second-team and NCCAA All-Region first-team.
Hogg’s name is a notable absence from the NCCAA All-American list. Because of his selection to the NSCAA/NCAA First Team, he was ineligible for NCCAA post-season All-American honors.
